Program Note
Silver Horizon is largely a study in resonance. The pianist is instructed to depress the sustain pedal for the entirety of the piece, creating a luminous interaction between the work's two opening gestures: a light, shimmering six-note motif and an ascending melodic ladder that slowly climbs increasingly higher. Throughout most of the middle section of the work, a simple three-notemelody weaves in and out of a rapid, blurred sonority that rotates kaleidoscopically from one pitch collection to another.
