Program Note
Autumn Dances evolved largely out of my love of traditional Japanese music. In many ways, the flute evokes the sound of the Japanese Shakuhachi and is complemented throughout by seven pitched singing bowls, five wooden planks, and three Japanese piccolo woodblocks in the percussion part. The music explores a variety of textures and atmospheres, ranging from sparse and haunting to fast and fleeting.
